What is a good alternative to flower arrangements at a wedding?

I am helping a friend plan her wedding. Our budget is basically non-exsistent. We had planned to gather fresh flowers for the table centerpieces. Now we are having a drought and due to an accident on the bridge to our Island, we have had to stop irrigating! There is very little chance that we will be able to find flowers. Any creative suggestions will be appreciated! The wedding colors and blue and teal. No special theme - just inexpensive (or free would be even better). Thanks.

Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersI went to a wedding a couple weeks ago and they had nice table centerpieces. They had heart shaped dishes (the bride got them for a dollar a piece at the dollar store) filled with hersheys kisses, hugs, etc. Then, she took some fake wedding rings, (a dollar a bag at the dollar store) and took 2 and tied them together with a piece of pretty white ribbon. She just scatterd them around the heart dishes. It was really really cute. At the main table, they had pretty much the same thing, except the main centerpiece was a picture of the couple in a really nice frame. Good luck!
Reply:Fresh parsley in a vase. It looks lovely and is inexpensive. You could try this too,

Reply:Hi,

Another nice alternative to flowers is a couple of white doves in a pretty white cage.

On the tables you could have little bouquets of ribbons with little flocked doves in them...you can get the flocked doves at any craft store. Report It

Reply:Another thing you can do is go to the dollar store get bowls, tea candles and fake flower petals. Fill the bowls with some water and place the petals in the water then put one candle in each bowl and light the candle. I always thought that that was gorgeous. Report It

Reply:Go to Fruits to remember.com they have great fruit flower arraingments. They are the best out there. ask for Christina soto or Leila She is the one who helped us and they were great. They are a little more in price than the other guys. But they are definately worth it. Report It

Reply:We used cut glass dishes from the dollar store too and floated candles in them and scattered rose petals around the table. Ribbon scattered would be pretty too. I love the jellybean idea! Cute! :) Report It

Reply:If you are on a non-existent budget, how about small votive candles (4 for $1.00) at certain budget stores, or taper candles (you can get the holders at budget stores too) with some silk rose petals (Wal-Mart a box usually has at least 50-100 petals)spread around on the table near the candles. Reply:i went to a wedding and i saw a nice vase with filled with water in it was greenery and it had a fish (beta) it looked awesome Report It

Reply:Another good idea, not for decoration but for memories, we put 3/5 note cards on the table with pens and asked everyone to write a little note (etc). We set a few cameras on tables and let everyone take pics. We matched the person in the pic with the comment they wrote for our memory book. Report It

Reply:How about inexpensive frames with quotes about marriage? Just run a google search on quotes, print them out on various colors of papers and various print styles, then frame. Put several in center of table with small glass candle holders and white votive candles. Report It

Reply:Japanese lanterns with soap flower petals scattered around make for a nice romantic center piece they give off a light glow. You can get them for about $5 each. Report It

Reply:For my wedding, we had a cylinder vase with seashells in water and a candle on top on top of a mirror surrounded by ivory bowls with 1 fish in each bowls with different colored rocks in the bottom of each fish bowl. Report It

Reply:The floating candle thing is very pretty. That is what my friend did, but with a twist. Her wedding colors were red and ivory, so she has ivory candles floating in water that she dyed red, it was very elegant. Report It

Reply:at my wedding we had nice glass fish bowls (check your craft store, i think they were around $2-$3) with some sand at the bottom and a nice candle in the middle with small sea shells and a few fresh orchids. it was simple but still looked really nice. Report It

Reply:I watched the discovery travel and living and saw a center piece. Reply:Try a %26quot;minimalist%26quot; arrangement of driftwood or dried twigs (gathered, of course) sprayed with spray-glue and dusted with teal and blue glitter. The twigs can be held up in not-too tall containers filled with dry sand (from the island%26#039;s beach). Even tin cans can be cleaned up and spray painted with metallic paint.

Use those little %26quot;tea light%26quot; candles (really cheap) strategically placed within the arrangement. - punch holes in the tin cans with a hammer and various sized nails and punches, chisels etc. for a folksy lantern effect.

Use a larger piece of driftwood and inexpensive pillar candles for the head table.
Reply:Fruit centerpieces, they smell good and are a hell of a lot cheaper than flowers! (ex. whole apples, oranges, kiwi, etc)
Reply:Get shallow but wide mouth clear dishes. Fill them with water and use floating candles (which I%26#039;m sure can be found in blue and teal) and petals (real or fake). The dishes don%26#039;t have to be the same, that can add to the uniqueness of every table and ease the burden of finding however many of the same exact dish. I included a picture that is a little more extravagant but can be toned down and still work. Hope it all goes well!
Reply:Get glass hurricane vases (closed on the bottom) head to the beach then fill them 1/3 of the way up with sand, then place a white or blue or teal tall thick candle in them. Very inexpensive and very classy. Candles are always the way to go.
Reply:I like the whole fruit in a glass bowl...it looks very fresh! You could also get sand ($5 at a home store for 50 pounds) and put some fresh branches, etc coming out from a vase....
Reply:Purchase matting for a picture frame (1 for each table) place in the center w/ some markers/pens %26amp; have the guests write their best wishes to the bride %26amp; groom on the matting. Then once they have pictures developed from the wedding %26amp; honeymoon, they can use them - no money wasted! And matting is extremly cheap. Shouldn%26#039;t cost more than $20 for all of the tables.
Reply:Try Gold fish in any type of bowl, I%26#039;m sure you could even go to a second hand store to find some. Put two in each bowl; a white one and a black one (bride and groom) then tie a ribbon around the top in blue and/or teal. Fish are usually pretty cheap. If you want go one better allow someone from each table to them home and then there is no worries about what to do with them after the wedding. Make it a game.

Have fun.
Reply:Go to your local dollar store! Little chests or jewelry boxes with necklaces or strings of beads in your wedding colors on pretty tapestry style table mats or scraps of material would be very pretty as well as inexpensive. It can be formal or informal. You could also use china bowls(either have or buy cheap) and fill them with snacks that you had already planned for your wedding. The cupcake racks that are at Walmart are cheap and would be nice also. Good Luck!
Reply:we went to the dollar store and got candles.. and glass hurricain lamps... then take a flower or two and sprinkle peadles
Reply:Pick up some thin twigs and branches, use silver spray paint to paint them, arrange them in a decorative fashion. use a few blue and teal fake or paper flowers, and there you have it
Reply:I think that candles are the way to go. They are very inexpensive and bring a romantic feel to any wedding. You could just get some candles (omit the vase to cut costs and to bring a little natural elegance). I would put maybe three different sized candles on each table and sprinkle some blue/teal pebble rocks (you can get them at any craft store) on each table as well.
Reply:Flower Balls. If u have HEB grocery stores they can special order the amount of flower bunches needed at no shipping cost.Flower bunches of 7 open roses are only $1 a bunch %26amp; you only need 3 1/2 for each.Foam is $1 at dollar stores. You just stick them all around evenly %26amp; it looks pretty big %26amp; elegant for only $4.50 a piece. Also next to that I am putting a little frame that you use for the guest names,I made color copies of a picture of us %26amp; put it in the frame instead of the name. They come 6 for a $1 at the dollar stores. On each of our parents tables will be a silver frame of an 8 1/2 X 11.So thats only 2 big frames for about $5.00.
Reply:candles EVERYWHERE... michaels sells them in bulk for cheaper, and dollar store for candles... if you have some fake flowers at home you could put with the candles?
Reply:Have you already ordered the cake?

If not, it is cheaper to make (or buy) small cakes and put one on each table as the center piece than it is to buy an expensive tall fancy cake.

Basically the best way to save money when planning a wedding is to try and use things for duplicate reasons. Then you can cut out something... make sense?

Or make your centerpieces be the same thing that you give out as favors...etc.

Good luck!
Reply:1. Get a mirror. Put a hurricane lamp on the mirror with a cream or white candle (to make it look lighter). On the mirror, sprinkle some sparkles/confetti that match your colors. Decorate the hurricane lamp with some blue ribbon and make a bow or something for it with some silk flowers (arts and crafts store).

2. Get a tall glass vase. Put feathers (the long white ones, or mix-and-match) inside and fill the vase about half way with sparkles/confetti that match your colors. (saw this on TV -- actually looked cool)

3. See #1, but use a wider bowl instead of the hurricane lamps, and use floating candles.

Good luck!
Reply:I used balloons. You can buy a little hand pump pretty cheap at a party store. then tie them to a %26quot;balloon stick%26quot; and put them in a plastic flute glass filled with candy or what ever to hold them up straight. You can fill one balloon with another and that looks pretty cool. Ask at your local party or craft store how to do that since it%26#039;s hard to explain.
Reply:I decorated the church with greenery, plumosa fern, springherii, variegated ivy, with baby%26#039;s breath and rented large fern for side accents. The variegated bows on these arrangements, accented the wedding colors and the wedding party were thecenter of attention. Simple, but elegant
Reply:The best thing I can think of that is inexpensive is hershey kisses
Reply:Here are a few suggestions. They can be used separately or together creatively. Try balloons, ice sculptures or fruit sculptures. Also, you can visit a hobby store and ask them about making ribbon flowers. Hand made ribbon roses can look especially nice when set in a vase of crystal stones or designed into a large centerpiece. A hobby store like %26quot;Michaels%26quot; can give you more ideas. Good luck with your centerpieces.

Flower arrangements that look like a dog?

Topiary bushes can be pretty much shaped into whatever you want. But then again, there are those %26quot;Made for TV%26quot; plants that they sell in boxes. It%26#039;s like moss that grows out of a certain shape and covers it to make it look like a plant shaped like that.. they sell them at Wal-Mart or K-Mart or Zellar%26#039;s -- cheap stores like that. I can%26#039;t think of their names - i think they%26#039;re like chuppa chuppa%26#039;s or something. Topiary%26#039;s can be purchased at almost any gardening store - they just take effort to shape them. They do grow flowers though!

Reply:You can purchase metal armatures in the shape of dogs of all sorts at the floral supply stores. You must, however, use floral foam soaked in water as the base inside to hold your stems. To keep it looking fresh longer, soak the whole arrangement every few days in the sink allowing it to drain. I would also use a charger platter or something waterproof underneath to protect furniture.Reebok

Which cut flowers make the best, long-lasting fresh flower arrangements?

I live in North Carolina, if that matters. Looking for an arrangement that has height and is aromatic, if possible.
Which cut flowers make the best, long-lasting fresh flower arrangements?
Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersCarnations and mums last the longest of the easy to obtain cut flowers. Sprays of orchids are long lasting too. Blue iris and lilies are the shortest lived. You can extend the life of flowers in a vase by keeping them as cool as possible and recutting the stems and changing the water every day.
Reply:I really like freesias. The stems are very elegant and usually look great in a tall vase. They are a relatively long lasting cut flower...about ten days ( to two weeks if kept cooler). Buy them in bud for best results. They are beautifully fragrant, but subtle enough that most men don%26#039;t complain!c++

Your local florist can give you some good advise in this area.

If all else fails have you thought of silk floral arrangements? They last forever. To make it more interesting the make up roses using colored feathers. Just shake them once in awhile. It is very different and I myself received some from a friend and I continually enjoy them.
Reply:just go to your local floral shop and have them take your order, most likely they will belong to FTD or Teleflora, and can send an order anywhere in the US, for like $5 extra, or you could look up floral shops in the area, call them directly, and save the $5. Just tell them that you want the arrangement in black and white and they will be able to figure something out. you can either have all white roses tipped black or get a mix of black and white roses. they make special dyes and paints just for flowers, so you can get the roses painted black and still get the same effect. Don%26#039;t worry, this is a simple order, and there should be no problem sending it, you just might have to pay a little extra.yahoo finance

Sympathy flower arrangements?

a friend of mine just lost her son and we are going to the wake tommorow....he was creamated...i am sending flowers to the church and i was wondering who i am supposed to address it to...do i put his name on the delivery or the mothers....also i decided on red and white carnations on a stand...do you think there better in a pot?
Sympathy flower arrangements?
Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersI would put to the family of...and his name. But as for flowers or potted flowers, I%26#039;d recommend a dish garden. Its all live green plants. Some florists put cuts mums in it to give it color and usually bow. I like this better than the cut floral arrangement for sympathy because the dish garden will live on and on just like you want the departed%26#039;s memory to live on and on. But if you have your heart set on red and white carnations, I dont think thats a bad idea either. Good luck with the decision and please tell your friend sorry for her loss.
Reply:As a florist I recommend writing his name on the card and then c/o or care of and then his mother%26#039;s name. That way the funeral home get%26#039;s it to the correct wake. Oh and on the pot, just a tip if the florist where to add water to the pot to keep the flowers longer the funeral home would probably pour it out. Most don%26#039;t like the water to spill on the carpet.
Reply:Having been on the receiving end of this, the flowers are all beautiful. But the live plants live on and they are wonderful remembrances. But to answer your question, on a stand with the carnations and you put the mother%26#039;s name on the delivery.
Reply:You can either put his name or %26quot;To the family of [his name]%26quot; or to his mother. All will be appreciated. When my son died suddenly, we received flowers and cards all ways. What will matter to her is that you remembered.

As to stand or pot, either will be just fine. The florist will put those on a stand in oasis so they will stay fresh.

Please be sure to remember her later as well, and let her talk about her son (don%26#039;t avoid his name). Every time someone tells her a story about him or lets her talk about him, it gives her back a piece of him. If you want to email me privately, I%26#039;ll send you my son%26#039;s web page address and you can look at some of the things his friends said about him. Those young people will never know how very much their comments and stories helped me.

One more thing, please give her a hug from one mother who lost her son to another who lost her son. Please assure her that even though it will always hurt, she will learn to live around the pain and have a full life again, not now, not tomorrow, but it will happen, piece by piece.makeup tips
